Chesterfield Technical Center at Hull prepares for first day of classes

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

This isn't your father's "Vo-Tech." Friday, Chesterfield County Schools unveiled its new Career and Technology Center at the site of the Old Clover Hill High School on Hull Street Road.

The $30 million renovation is giving the school system a second place to offer classes for students, plus providing auditorium and convocation spaces to the community.

"Our students will have opportunities for veterinary science, biotechnology, homeland security, firefighting, mechatronics, logistics, just wonderful opportunities for our young people," said Chesterfield County School Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome.

Newsome said if the school system started from scratch the facility would've cost upwards of $80 million.

In addition to educational space, this facility will also provide office space for the school system.
