Fresh faces lead Dinwiddie in search of repeat

Dinwiddie gears up for title defense

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - Last season, Dinwiddie posted one of the most dominant showings in recent area high school football history. Not only did the Generals finish a perfect 15-0 on the way to the program's first state championship, they outscored opponents by an average of 48-8.

This year's team has a tough act to follow. Billy Mills and company are tasked with replacing 14 starters from the 2013 squad. Key returners such as Denzel Williams (DB/WR) and Dakarai Wilson (WR/DB) will look to emerge as leaders to what will be a young group this season. John Branch (LB) also will assume a bigger leadership role as one of the eight returning starters.

Even though some of the faces may be different, the goals remain the same. Mills says the team has done more team building activities than they ever have before to get this group ready to compete at a high level. The Generals' junior varsity team only lost one game last season, so the players making the jump to varsity are also used to success.

Dinwiddie opens up its 2014 season on Friday, August 29, when the Generals host Monacan. NBC12 On the Sidelines kicks off that night as well.
