RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Former governor Bob McDonnell will take the stand for a second day, focusing on his marriage to wife Maureen.
The defense's strategy has involved casting his marriage - and in particular, his wife Maureen - as a mess. This looks to go against the charge of conspiracy because the two were barely speaking to each other at the time.
The former governor took the stand around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. He talked about his background, then went into some of the challenges faced by his family as he rose in politics.
He said the day after he won the governorship, his wife Maureen broke down - stressed about what was expected of her as First Lady.
He also talked about his goal of creating jobs and focusing on business development. However, that was all just the tip of the iceberg in his testimony.
McDonnell will have to explain his relationship with Jonnie Williams to win over the jury, and that's part of what we may hear from him on the stand Thursday.
