HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - The Atlee Station Family YMCA will not close its doors in October, as originally planned.
The YMCA of Greater Richmond announced Wednesday the branch would stay open until at least October 2016, after working with HHHunt and a group of volunteers.
The decision still requires board approval, which will likely come on Friday.
The YMCA announced last month the branch would close its doors, forcing members and staff to use other branch locations. The 10,295 square foot facility opened less than three years ago in the Rutland Business Park, but struggled financially. The closure would have made the Patrick Henry YMCA in Ashland the lone branch in Hanover.
