Starbucks attacker in hospital for mental treatment

A 58 year old  woman was randomly attacked here at this Starbucks in the early morning hours of July 14th. She suffered life changing injuries but says she feels sympathy for her attacker who was due in court Tuesday.

Kathy Vinson was bruised and in a neck brace after she was kicked multiple times in the head by Worku Asfaw Woldermariam. Her daughter says the 58 year old can barely remember the attack. She has short term memory loss due to brain swelling. The mother of two and the grandmother of three loved her job at Starbucks but is now unable to work. Her daughter tells me Vinson has problems with her speech, gets dizzy when walking and says  she feel trapped when she is unable to recall words to express what she wants to say.

With all she's dealing with, she feels sympathy for her attacker.  Worku Woldermariam was due in Henrico court. He's charged with multiple counts of malicious wounding. He was not in court because he is currently undergoing mental treatment at central state hospital. He's also ordered to take medication.

Vinson says it's sad that mental health is under treated in this country and she feels sorry for Woldermariam.

Vinsons recovery remains slow but steady and she continues to get an outpouring of support from co-workers and customers.
