SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) -

A 46 year old Culpeper man has been arrested, accused in an armed robbery in Spotysylvania County.

Deputies say Wednesday the suspect, Gary Porter, approached a register at the Dollar General Store in the 6500 block of Jefferson Davis Highway brandishing a gun and demanded money. They say the clerk complied and turned over the cash from the register drawer and then Porter fled on foot.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect using surveillance video. Culpeper Police detained the suspect on Thursday. They say he was still wearing the identical clothing that he wore during the armed robbery of the Dollar General Store.

Porter was subsequently charged on four felony counts, including Armed Robbery, Use of a Firearm in commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon and Carrying a concealed weapon.  He was ordered to be held without bond and remanded to the Detention Center.
