Mayo begins head coaching career at Glen Allen

GLEN ALLEN, VA (WWBT) - The Glen Allen football team played its first varsity football game in 2011 and have been making a steady climb in its previous three years of existence. The Jaguars enter their fourth season hoping to it's the squad's best campaign yet, and is embracing new leadership.

Keylon Mayo is beginning his first year as Glen Allen's head coach. He takes over for Francel Smith. Mayo coached on Smith's staff for the past few years, including some time as the JV head coach. Now he leads the varsity team out of the gates for the first time and is looking forward to building on what Smith has started with the program.

2013 saw the Jaguars post a 4-7 record, including the program's first playoff appearance. They return four starters on each side of the ball, but Mayo is happy with the new starters they have coming in.

Glen Allen opens up its season on August 29 at Caroline.
