Bulldogs look to carry on winning tradition

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

Goochland football has caught fire since 2006. During the last nine seasons, the Bulldogs have posted double digit wins seven times, one perfect season and two state titles. It's safe to say that winning is more than a goal for Goochland, it's an expectation.

After winning a state championship in 2012, the Bulldogs followed it up last year with a respectable 10-3 showing, but many of the players and coaches were disappointed the team didn't advance deeper into the playoffs.

2014 sees an experienced group back and looking to get back to the state title game. A good portion of the Bulldogs' offense returns, including senior running back Jordan Jefferson. Head coach Joe Fowler says the squad is looking to fill some holes on the defensive side of the ball, but the secondary is experienced and the team feels good about some of the younger players they have coming in.

Goochland opens up its 2014 season on August 29th at home against Essex.
