The federal government agency's website says that the reason is "to provide a safe environment for law enforcement activities."
The no-fly zone will last through Aug. 18.
Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis, has seen protests and riots as a result of the shooting death of Michael Brown. The unarmed 18-year-old was killed Saturday. Police said that Brown attacked the officer and tried to take his gun while witnesses say that Brown had his hands in the air.
A vigil was held for the teen on Sunday evening, but deteriorated into riots and looting. More riots occurred Monday evening in the town of 21,000 people.
The police will not release the name of the officer who shot Brown for safety reasons. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson told CNN that another officer was accused on social media of being the shooter and received threats.
Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represented Trayvon Martin's parents, is now representing the Brown's family.
