NEW YORK CITY (RNN) – Random performances can be found everywhere in New York City, especially in and out of its busy subways.
In a video posted on Aug. 5, the current NYC cast of The Lion King performing at Time Square’s Minskoff Theater, sang the opening theme to the 1994 animated hit movie and Broadway musical, Circle of Life.
The performance, recorded on June 28, caught some passengers by surprise. Some watched and recorded on the cell phones, while others kept their heads down or in books. Typical New Yorkers.
The video has received more than 5 million views without dressing in drag and doing the hula like Timon and Pumbaa.
The performance was reminiscent of the April 2014 performance by the show's Australian cast while on an airplane from Brisbane to Sydney.
In 2013, the Disney musical because Broadway’s first show to gross more than $1 billion, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Broadway rendition has been performed all over the world since it debuted in 1997 and won several Tony Awards.
