Southside Speedway reacts to Stewart-Ward accident

Local track reacts to Stewart accident

MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - Tony Stewart's fatal accident that killed fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. Saturday night happened at a short track in upstate New York similar to Southside Speedway in Midlothian.

We went to the track Sunday to speak with Director of Marketing Chris Stefi, who also races at the track.

Stefi told NBC12 there are no specific rules regarding drivers leaving their cars after an accident and walking on the track but that drivers are always advised to remain in their cars.

Stefi also said he hopes the tragedy doesn't deter big-name drivers from racing at smaller local tracks.

Tracks like Southside Speedway rely on the appearances of those drivers at their tracks for their survival during the season.
