L.C. Bird welcomes target on its back

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

L.C. Bird football has been nothing short of exceptional during the last two years. Not only are the Skyhawks two-time defending state champions, they haven't lost since 2011, and enter this year's campaign on a 29 game winning streak.

This year, David Bedwell's team returns a core group of about 13 players that saw significant time last year. They're replacing some key skill positions at quarterback and running back, but Bedwell says that's nothing new for the program.

Winning as much as the Skyhawks have been recently draws attention from opponents, but Bedwell and senior wide receiver/defensive back Tyler Wilkins both say that the team likes that spotlight. Bedwell says they put a target on their own backs and they want to be everybody's big game.

L.C Bird opens its 2014 season on September 5 against Thomas Dale.
