On Your Side: Healing through laughter

Kim McGaughey is dealing with her second bout of cervical cancer. She got the news back in October.

"I was scared going 'oh, my goodness'. You know, I beat it. Can I do it again?" McGaughey said.

With the support of friends and family she decided that she was determined to beat it. So her friends began attending her cancer treatments for what they called "chemo parties." There is singing, dancing food and a lot of fun. There is also a theme each time.

Kim's doctor, Mary Helen Hackney says the parties are a little unconventional but she says the laughter is a good dose of natural medicine.

"Every patient is a little different and every cancer is a little different and every treatment process is a little different. The journey is different for different individuals. For her, this has been a beautiful thing," said Dr. Hackney.

The parties have even caught the attention of singer/ songwriter Susan Greenbaum who often stops by Kim's treatments for private concerts.

For Kim, the parties and the treatment seem to be working. She has just been given the news she had hoped for.

"There is no detectable cancer," said Kim
