Vikings look to continue climb

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In 2012, Chad Hornik led Thomas Jefferson to its first win on the football field in seven years in his first season at the head of the program. Last season, the Vikings improved, finishing the regular season 3-7 and earning a playoff berth, but they were close in several of the contests they lost.

This year, Hornik is eying continued improvement from his team in his third season at the helm. He says the team is buying into the mentality and believing in where the program is going. He also says the players are putting in the work to go along with it.

Hornik adds that, for the first time in three years, he feels very happy with the coaching staff he has in place.

Thomas Jefferson has gotten some upgrades to its facilities since Hornik's arrival. Two years ago, the locker room was renovated and the team got new uniforms. Last season, the weight room underwent an improvement. 2014 will see a new scoreboard for the Vikings, as well as an irrigation system for the field.

The Vikings return 16 starters from last year's team, giving the team a good mix of experience and young talent. Hornik hopes its a team that will continue its upward climb, eclipse five wins on the year and go deep into the postseason.

Thomas Jefferson's journey starts August 29, when the Vikings open their season at Colonial Heights.
