RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The government's key witness is testifying in the corruption trial for former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

Jonnie Williams began testifying Wednesday. He is the former chief executive of Star Scientific Inc., a dietary supplement company. Prosecutors say Williams gave McDonnell and his wife more than $165,000 in secret gifts and cash in exchange for promoting his company.

If convicted, the McDonnells could face decades in prison.

Attorneys for the McDonnells have questioned Williams' character and say he has changed his story in order to receive immunity from prosecutors. His company is under investigation and a defense attorney says Williams may have illegally sold $10 million worth of shares to a friend.
