Henrico Police working 2 separate shootings overnight

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Gunfire rings out in not one, but two shootings in Henrico's East End. Both shootings happened within two hours and five miles of each other.

Officers were responding to a single-vehicle accident on Cleary Road near Mechanicsville Turnpike when they heard shots go off just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, people ran when they heard that gunfire, but one person was hit. He was taken to VCU Medical Center. We are still working to learn his condition.

Police searched the scene with dogs and using the plane looking for suspects. They say it is possible that there is a connection between the accident and the shooting. They've also been talking to witnesses throughout the night. So far no arrests have been made.

Officers are investigating a second shooting that happened a little after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. We know one man was shot. Right now, police do not believe the two are connected.

This one happened in the 3800 block of Alma Avenue, not far from Forest Lawn Cemetery.

When officers arrived on the scene around 12:40 a.m., they found one man who had been shot. He was taken to VCU Medical Center, and we hear that he is expected to be ok.

Anyone with any information on either of these shootings is asked to call Henrico Police at 501-5000.
