Chesterfield woman accused of stealing chicken from Popeyes

A Chesterfield woman called 12 after some real drive-thru drama. Workers allegedly spilled a drink all over the customer by mistake, but that customer ended up facing criminal charges. It all happened at the Popeyes on East Laburnum Avenue in Henrico.

"Fruit punch was everywhere. It was all over my clothes. It was all over the floor," said that customer who did not want to be identified. "I was more in shock than anything. I was like did that just really happen? The young lady's response was oops my bad."

The customer demanded to speak to a manager.

"She basically told me the only thing she could do is comp my meal," said the customer.

The customer also requested a number for the corporate office. She wanted to file a complaint.

"And that's when all hell broke loose," said the customer who claims managers refused to offer the free meal when she requested to file a complaint.

She says the restaurant threatened to call police if she drove off. She allegedly decided to give the restaurant worker her license plate number and drove to the neighboring gas station to clean up the mess.

"I said well go ahead and call the police because I would love to share with them exactly how I've been treated today," said the customer who claims she waited for officers for at least 30 minutes.

She eventually left and was surprised to find an arrest warrant in her mailbox that weekend.

"I was scared," said the customer. "I've never been locked up before."

She reported to police and was charged with petit larceny.

"We were not aware this had escalated to this point," said the director of operations for the franchise Bruce Bruno.  "We are not pursuing charges."

The customer says this has all placed a bad taste in her mouth.

"I'm hurt. I actually feel like crying right now," said the customer. "I can't believe I am going through all of this."

At last check those charges still stand. She is due in court in late August.
