UPDATE: Missing 8-year-old found

Richmond Police have found the eight year-old-boy who went missing from the Boys & Girls Club on Branch Avenue Friday morning.

Police say he was found unharmed, half a mile away and a friend's house.  He was taken home to his mother.

Police say the boy went missing around 9:40 a.m., he was found about two hours later.

"We were on pins and needles," says Sean Miller, the vice president of operations for the Boys and Girls Club Metro Richmond.  At 10:47 a.m., police tweeted,"Looking for a 10 year old missing on the city's north side. Black male 5'3" black shirt&shoes - dark blue shorts. Call 646-5100 if spotted." Police later corrected the age as 8 years old.

"As a parent, I think everyone would ultimately go into a state of panic and wonder what's taking place and what's happening," says Miller.  He says the boy was part of a supervised activity taking place on the basketball court behind the club building.  There were about 20 children, with one adult watching.  Miller says that ratio is standard.  He says the boy wandered off and police were called immediately.

While this missing child's case turned out well, there may be room for improvement to ensure this doesn't happen again.  "We will definitely review this situation and figure if anything, what we could have done differently," says Miller.

Miller says there are about 100 children who come to this club daily. And despite this brief scare, it remained open the rest of the day.  Parents NBC12 spoke to off camera say they feel safe sending their children here.

Police say no charges will be placed against the club.
