Strip club corrects 5 critical violations

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

You might not expect to see a strip club on the NBC12 Restaurant Report. But if they serve food, the health department inspects them just like other restaurants. A club that usually earns better health inspections had 5 critical violations on its last inspection.

Gentlemen's club Pure Pleasure at 68 LaBrook Concourse in Richmond was previously a runner up for the Health Department's Star Award for good health inspections. But among its five critical violations last time, the report says employees were handling ready-to-eat food with their bare hands. But that and other violations were corrected on the spot.

Also in the report tonight, Kabuto at 13158 Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield, known for its hibachi show. "We have some really good chefs," said General Manager April Lawrence.

But it had five critical violations on its last health inspection, including that some seafood on ice was not staying cold enough, and some seafood was sitting on ice that wasn't draining. So Lawrence said they bought new metal containers.

Showing off the tray, Lawrence said, "It has holes in it and it drains down, but it's not as deep as the other ones.  Those were plastic and these are metal so they conduct cold better."

She also said they bought new chopsticks that are individually packaged, after the inspector had noted some chopsticks had been stored unprotected.

Showing the sealed packaging, she said, "So these are things that they can use to make their chopsticks. So everything is sealed, nothing is touched."

The report shows violations were corrected during the inspection.

The NBC12 Hall of Fame Award goes to Satellite Restaurant at 4000 Jefferson Davis Highway in Richmond. It has aced four health inspections and hasn't had a single critical violation.
