New Chesterfield housing phases raises traffic concerns

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

The work is already underway in Chesterfield on two new housing phases. Wynwood and Greenwich Walk stand to bring 500 more homes to this already crowded area in Fox Creek.

That number will grow when the second and third phases of Fox Creek are complete. The project is expected to include townhouses and single-family homes.

Stone Chaffin frequents the area, often visiting friends. "That is a lot more traffic and that makes the situation a whole lot worse," Chaffin said.

He recently had a horrific car accident near Fox Creek, partly because of winding roads and excessive traffic.

"It's always pretty backed up because it's a pretty crowded area. But I mean, you are going to get that. It is around Hull Street in this area. There are a lot of people in it," Chaffin said.

But the County says it has a solution. Parts of Hull Street and Wooldrige Road are being widened to accommodate the heavy flow of traffic brought on by people moving into these new homes.

Christine Rowe lives near Fox Creek. Widening the road she says is the best option to make sure traffic isn't congested.

"It is going to take some time and cause more traffic to get it there but it will be a better result after it is finished," she said.

Some of those homes have already started to go up the entire project is expected to be finished in a few years.
