My message this week is very simple: Early childhood
education is a child's right and parent's responsibility.
It's never too early
to register your child for preschool in the Richmond area's public school
systems. If your child turns four years old by September 20, they are
eligible for preschool. I was surprised to hear from many school officials and
teachers that one of the biggest problems in some school districts was parents
not registering their children for preschool.
Preschool helps to prepare children for kindergarten and is
one of the best experiences a child can receive. It sets the foundation for a lifetime of
learning. Although it may vary by city
and county, now is the time to register your child. Through the Virginia
Preschool Initiative, parents are able to register their children online or in
person so that their child is ready for school by September 8.
The statistics are clear that when a child was involved in
pre-school, the opportunity for success and higher achievement was greatly
