RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Richmond man will serve three-and-a-half years in prison in relation to drug and firearms charges stemming from an incident outside a community center in September, 2013.

Brian Morris pleaded guilty on Wednesday for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, and for possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics.

Morris was arrested last year outside the Neighborhood Resource Center in Richmond's Fulton neighborhood. He was caught with narcotics and a firearm in plain view of the officer who came to check on him after partygoers inside the center reported him to police.

According to Commonwealth Attorney Erik Smith, Morris was sentenced to ten years for the possession charge, but eight-and-a-half years were suspended. The firearms charge carries a mandatory two-year sentence.
