RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Delegate Rosalyn Dance intends to seek the Democratic nomination to fill the seat left vacant by Senator Henry Marsh's retirement.

Dance made it official at the Richmond City Democratic Committee's Annual Barbecue.

The special election to fill the vacant seat in Virginia's 16th Senatorial District will be held on November 4. This seat was formerly held by Marsh who retired on July 3.

"I look forward to the opportunity to be the Democratic senatorial voice for the constituents of the 16th Senatorial District," said Del. Dance. "It would be an honor to partner with Senator Donald McEachin as a second voice for the city of Richmond and to continue serving these other five localities (counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George; the cities of Hopewell and Petersburg) that makeup the 16th Senatorial District."

Dance previously served as Mayor of Petersburg and currently represents the 63rd District in the House of Delegates. A date hasn't been set for the nomination process. The deadline to submit a nominee is August 15.
