RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A lawsuit filed by the former chief of the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority Police Department is over, at least for now.

Former-Chief Hal Hazelton is voluntarily dismissing the defamation suit against leaders of RRHA, according to court documents which show a judge issued what's called a nonsuit order.

There has not been a settlement reached between the parties, however the order does allow Hazelton the option of re-filing the defamation suit at a later date.

Hazelton filed the lawsuit claiming he was publicly disgraced and fired as retaliation. A judge had already dismissed a whistleblower claim.

NBC12 reached out to Hazelton's attorney today, but have not yet heard back.
