Mother, police still searching for answers in Brendon Mackey case

It is nearly one year since Marie Harris lost her 7 year-old son Brendon Mackey. Police say Brendon Mackey was reportedly shot and killed by celebratory gunfire.

"I don't know if catching the person at this point would bring closure, it can't bring my son back," Marie Harris said.

There are still so many unanswered questions about what happened that fourth of July night in this Brandermill Community.

Harris is stronger than she was a year ago says at the very least, she would like an apology.

"I just want the person to feel remorseful for what they have done," Marie Harris said.

Though community managers say it is not in direct response to what happened with Brandon Mackey, The Brandermill community is making it mandatory that anyone coming out to the Fourth of July celebration must have a resident parking permit to park inside the community."

"Basically they were saying we really need to do something to alleviate the traffic and parking issues that Brandermill has during the fourth of July," Community manager John Bailey

In a letter Chesterfield Fire & EMS dated from August of last year the Brandermill Community was pretty much told to fix the parking problem that spawned from their fireworks show or there will be no fire works.

"There is very little room if any at all for a fire truck or ambulance or other type of emergency vehicles to get down to help somebody if they needed it," John Bailey said.

Police tell us that after testing 8 firearms and canvassing 1800 homes in the Brandermill Community, they have exhausted all leads and are leaning on the public for help.

"Our hope today is that as family and friends come together over the July 4th holiday in this area hopefully someone will remember something," Captain Chris Hensley said.

Chesterfield police will be on alert for celebratory gunfire on the fourth of July.
There is a cash reward just over $9,000 for anyone who provides information in this case that leads to an arrest.
