Suspect in deadly Hopewell stabbing arrested

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) -

Hopewell Police confirm the suspect in a deadly stabbing was arrested at a relative's home late Saturday evening.

52-year-old Ulysses Blanding, Jr. was wanted for murder in the 1st degree and taken into custody without incident.

Just before 4:00 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Davisville Court for a reported domestic disturbance. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Catherine Elizabeth Lipford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lipford's body was found with "multiple sharp force injuries" according to a statement issued by the Hopewell Police Department.

    The mother of two-year-old William Roberts took her eyes off her son for a couple minutes Saturday afternoon, according to police. The toddler disappeared in a creek in Borden, Indiana around 230 p.m.
