A group of bikers have gone new-school to fight crime, using their connections online to make a difference.
Michael Smerka was at a bike night last week in Murfreesboro when someone swiped his one-of-a-kind $700 helmet.
The Facebook group Nashville Area Motorcycle Riders posted about it online.
"When everybody figured out it was missing, we posted it on Nashville Area Motorcycle Riders, and everybody kind of got involved to be on the lookout for it," Smerka said.
With about 5,000 members, it didn't take long for someone in the group to spot the helmet.
The helmet was spotted on the head of a motorcycle rider in Nashville.
Another biker confronted the alleged thief, and he drove off.
"As he was pulling into his apartment complex, somebody else in the riding community, a whole different person, 20 minutes later seen him pull in and then everybody already knew about looking for it, so they immediately called me and the police and recovered it," Smerka said.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
The Facebook group also credits the community for the recent recovery of a stolen motorcycle.
