RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond police say one man is dead after a double shooting in South Richmond Monday night. The second victim, a 21-year-old male, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Richmond detectives on Tuesday identified the man who died as Dominique S. Mangram, 26, of the 5600 block of Petoskey Avenue.

We were on the scene moments after shots rang out around 3:00p.m. at Steve's Food Mart on Hull Street Road Monday night.

While police believe this was an isolated incident, the brazen act has many on edge. Richmond police stepped up patrols in the area to prevent any acts of retaliation.

According to witnesses, three men began fist fighting outside of the store. Those punches then turned into gunfire.

"There was a shot made and then one of the guys ran to that car and grabbed a gun," witness Linwood Church said. Church said he was inside Steve's Food Mart when shots rang out.

"I ran and locked the doors and got the girls behind the counter. They all ran in the back and locked the doors," he said.

One victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died. The other victim remains in critical but stable condition.

Richmond police will continue their hourly patrols throughout the night to prevent any kind of retaliation.
