Stafford Marine, two others, killed in Afghanistan

STAFFORD, VA (WWBT) -

A Marine from Stafford was killed during combat in Afghanistan on Friday, the Department of Defense announced.

Thirty-four-year-old Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

He was fighting in Helmand province, Afghanistan on Friday when he died. Nineteen-year-old Lance Cpl. Brandon Garabrant of Peterborough, New Hampshire; and 25-year-old Lance Cpl. Adam Wolff of Cedar Rapids, Iowa were also killed during the "hostile incident."

Stewart most recently deployed to Afghanistan in April, while Garabrant and Wolff deployed in March.
