CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond mother faces charges of felony child neglect for leaving her two-year-old alone in a Chesterfield car.

Tabitha A. Inge, 28, left her daughter, Mikayla Thurston alone in her car on Tuesday night at the Parkway Village Mobile Home Park on Jefferson Davis Highway, according to police. Detectives believe Mikayla's neck and head became trapped in a partially opened car window, when the toddler tried to climb out of the vehicle. The girl was taken to VCU Medical Center where she died.

Chesterfield police arrested Inge Thursday night on the felony child neglect charge. She is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail pending a hearing in the Chesterfield County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court at 2 p.m. Friday.

The child's grandfather, Larry Inge, told the AP the girl's mother had stopped at a home to drop off hair products and left the child in the car.
