More Bang for your Buck: Scouting clearance sales

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

If you're a savvy shopper who likes to find the best deals, then our Diva of Discounts has what you need to know. She's already told you how stores move items by lowering the prices. Now she's got the insider scoop on the specific day the stores restock the clearance.

Many stores have a set pattern when merchandise goes on clearance.

"They want to get rid of this stuff and make room for the new stuff," said Kyle James of ratherbeshopping.com.

James asked store personnel which days the items are moved, and most had no problem telling him.

At CVS, the day to go is Monday. "The manager told  me that they start their markdowns on Sunday, usually Sunday afternoon, and they're supposed to be done by Monday night," he said.

Monday's the day to fall into the Gap too, but James says they only do it every other week.

Tuesday is when you'll score more Macy's markdowns. Plus there's always paper and internet coupons, just make sure they include clearance times.

Anthropolgie has a clearance room. James's insider there told him it's refilled by Tuesday.

Ross is known for having good stuff with lower prices. "They get new shipments in Monday and Tuesday," James said, which makes Wednesday the best day to find even better deals.

Old Navy marks items down after close on Tuesday, making Wednesday the time to find the best selection.

Buying for a baby? Think Thursday because Babies r Us will have many items for less.

If you love Kohl's, James says the second and fourth Saturday of every month is when markdowns happen.

For crafty folks who like Joann Fabrics, the markdowns start Sunday morning.  Again, there are coupons to help.

James says never be afraid to ask about timing..the stores want the items cleared, too
