KNOCKMEALDOWNS MOUNTAINS, IRELAND (WWBT) -

Dense rhododendrons trapped a pair of lost hikers in Ireland leading to a five-hour rescue operation.

The two hikers were admiring the rhododendron forest when they got stuck on Sunday, reports the BBC.

"It was horrendous - I have been a member of mountain rescue for 15 years and it was probably one of the most dangerous exercises or rescues I've been on," Jimmy Barry from the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association told BBC Radio Ulster.

It took two hours for a five-person rescue team to walk around 400 yards through the jungle of dense foliage.

They then had to scale down the mountainside to a lake below, where a boat took them to safety.
