14-year-old accused of trying to rob woman in East Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police say a 14-year-old is in custody after trying to rob a woman at gunpoint in East Nashville early Thursday.

The woman says she was sitting on her front porch at her apartment on South 4th Street at Shelby Avenue around 2 a.m. when the teen and two other people came up to her.

The victim's brother saw what was happening and tackled the teen.

"I'm surprised my brother is still alive," the woman said.

During the struggle, the teen suspect's gun went off and grazed his hand.

He was taken to Skyline Medical Center for minor injuries but has since been released into police custody.

The victim and the man who disarmed the suspect were not injured. They say they're concerned for the suspect. After all, he's just a kid.

"I hope he survives it. I hope he changes his life," the victim said.

Metro police says the teen will be charged with aggravated assault and attempted aggravated robbery.

Police are still looking for the two other people who were with the suspect during the attempted robbery.
