Chesterfield Police investigating death of child left in car

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield Police are investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a child apparently left unattended on Tuesday.

Police responded to the 6700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a 2-year-old girl who was not breathing. The child, Mikayla J. Thurston of Richmond, was transported to VCU Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the investigation indicates the child was left unattended in a vehicle, and her head and neck became trapped between the car's window and door frame.
