Chesterfield man cited after bringing gun to Richmond International Airport

Posted: Updated:

A Midlothian man was cited by airport police on a weapons charge after Transportation Security Administration officers stopped him from bringing a loaded gun past the security checkpoint at the Richmond International Airport checkpoint on Tuesday.

Authorities said TSA officers detected the .357 caliber firearm, which was loaded with five rounds, in the man's carry-on bag as he was passing through the airport checkpoint.

TSA officers contacted the Capital Region Airport Commission Police, who responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the firearm and cited the man on a state weapons charge. There was no impact to airport operations.

It marks the second time this month that TSA officers have detected a firearm at the checkpoint. Approximately 6,000 travelers fly out of Richmond each day.
