SunTrust to pay $34M to 3,200 foreclosed Virginians

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

SunTrust will repay millions of dollars to Virginians as part of a settlement in a major mortgage abuse case, according to the Attorney Generals Office.

In the coming days, SunTrust will contact 3,200 Virginians who lost their homes to foreclosure between 2008 and 2014. Attorney General Mark Herring says those Virginians will receive an estimated $34 million in relief as part of a state and federal settlement with SunTrust that just unfolded.

The settlement now requires SunTrust to substantially change how it does business when it comes to mortgages and seeks to prevent past abuses, like robo-signing, improper documentation and lost paperwork.

If you've lost a mortgage through SunTrust and think you qualify for compensation, you should contact SunTrust directly at 1-800-634-7928 or by using the email contact form at www.SunTrustMortgage.com.
