RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - So just who is Dave Brat? The man who toppled a political powerhouse with barely any money or backing.
Dave Brat turns 50 next month. He been teaching at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland for nearly 20 years, but tonight, for at least another day, he's made 'the center of the universe' the center of American politics.
His victory Tuesday: stunning and fascinating to any political observer.
"I read this every day, Luke 18:27. Jesus replied, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Brat told a crowd of cheering supporters Tuesday night during his victory speech.
Dave Brat has a Masters of Divinity and PhD in Economics. He teaches economics and ethics at Randolph-Macon.
He hails from the Midwest, but has called Henrico County home since the '90s with his wife Laura and two teenage children, Jonathan and Sophia.
"My conservatism is the conservatism of Edmund Burke and the great classic conservatives. That's where I stand, I've always been there," says Brat.
He believes in the free market and if sent to Washington, his goal will be to limit the federal government. He's argues for terms limits, even for himself.
