So just who is Dave Brat? The
man who toppled a political powerhouse with barely any money or backing.
Dave Brat turns 50 next month. He been teaching at
Randolph-Macon College in Ashland for nearly 20 years, but tonight, for at
least another day, he's made ‘the center of the universe' the
center of American politics.
His victory Tuesday: stunning and fascinating to any political observer.
"I read this every day, Luke 18:27. Jesus
replied, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Brat
told a crowd of cheering supporters Tuesday night during his victory speech.
Dave Brat has a Masters of
Divinity and PhD in Economics. He teaches economics and ethics at
He hails from the Midwest, but has called Henrico County home since the '90s
with his wife Laura and two teenage children, Jonathan and Sophia.
"My conservatism is the conservatism of Edmund Burke and the great classic
conservatives. That's where I stand, I've always been there," says
He believes in the free
market and if sent to Washington, his goal will be to limit the federal
government. He's argues for terms limits, even for himself.
"It's not personal. I'm not running against Eric
but I'm running against folks who stay up there too long and turn from the
District to represent folks up in DC," Brat told NBC12 just days
before the primary.
