RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Public Schools officials confirmed Wednesday night that Marva Maid's milk will no longer be served to its students.

According to a statement from the school administration, on Wednesday a container of milk in one city school was found to have an unidentified substance in it. The statement continued, "While preliminary information suggests that this incident is not related to the issues experienced by surrounding counties, the district is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and health of all students."

The change comes amid reports from Henrico and other localities that students became ill after drinking contaminated milk. The Virginia Department of Health found harmful bacteria in the milk it tested immediately following the first reports of health problems in Henrico County.

Juice and water will be available for students in place of milk.
