MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - Another south Richmond family is in mourning after a homicide at the Midlothian Village Apartments, Monday evening.
Detectives are searching for the suspect, who shot and killed Develle Thomas, 21, just yards away from a playground off the 4,000 block of Midlothian Turnpike. Thomas's lifeless body was left exposed for children and anyone passing by to see. Investigators put up black panels to block the view of the victim. Officers, K-9 units, and crime scene tape covered the complex within less than a minute of the 911 call, at about 6:30 p.m..
Thomas's father and mother were left to watch, devastated.
"[Develle] have a good personality. He have a good heart... would help anyone out," described Thomas's father Robert Williams.
Williams held tight to his son's newborn daughter, Chevelle. "He has a daughter, just seven months old... He loved her. He loved that little girl," continued Williams through tears.
One little girl says she and other children were playing on the playground, when gunshots rang out. She ran right into her apartment.
"We don't know. We don't know what happened," added Williams through tears.
Police say they have strong leads. However, no arrests have been made yet.
