Richmond police investigate Manchester car break-ins

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Residents in Manchester woke up to smashed windows and broken glass this morning, after someone broke into several cars. The seven cars were hit on 14th Street, near Decatur, and in the parking lot of the Imani Mews apartment complex.

"They just broke the window," said Denita Green. "They broke it for nothing! I don't keep anything valuable in my car. So basically, they gave me a headache. Now I have to go and get my windshield replaced."

Employees here say the crime was all caught on camera. A man could be seen getting into the cars and stuffing people's belongings into a bag. Strangely, an employee said the suspect would hit one car in this area, then walk down 14th Street over to Decatur Street, disappear for a while, and then come back and hit another car. And he did that several times over the course of an hour and a half.

Police said they haven't put together a suspect description yet, but they are looking at surveillance video in the area.

Denita Green says her car repairs alone will cost her a few hundred dollars.

"They need to get a job," said Green. "I work. They were stuck on stupid! That's what I'm saying. Stuck on stupid!"

Authorities and office employees are examining the surveillance video closely. Police were on the scene all day Monday talking to victims. Anyone with information about this incident can call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
