Shootout leads to drug arrests in quiet Northside neighborhood

A shootout in a quiet Richmond neighborhood leads to the arrest of several drug dealers. Richmond police say they raided the home at 2902 Montrose Avenue early Friday morning.

Photos sent in by an NBC12 viewer show Richmond and ATF Swat Teams storming the home. That same viewer says the home and the people inside have caused problems for years.

Richmond Police arrested four men and seized cocaine, cash, crack and weapons. 20-year-old Chawn Beale, 25-year-old Corey Beale, 33-year Christopher Canty and 24-year-old Corey Mayo were each charged with several drug offenses Friday in federal court.

"I'm pleased that we were able to arrest these individuals without incident," said Captain Michael Zohab, commander of the Department's Special Investigations Division. "It should be a relief to the residents of that neighborhood that such dangerous individuals are now in custody."

While neighbors are breathing a sigh of relief, they're still on edge, since they say they've seen many people come and go from that home.

One neighbor spoke to us on the condition of anonymity. "It's always been a problem. So many people going in and out. If they're driving by, drugs and gangs and stuff, I don't want it coming over to my house," he said.

We tried to speak to a woman who came out of the home, but she denied knowing anything about drugs or the shootout.

On Wednesday, bullets went flying on Montrose Avenue around 6:40 at night. Richmond police say the people connected to that shooting live in that house.

Police say more charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
