HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Glen Allen elementary school student has spelled his way into the Championship round of the National Spelling Bee.

Tejas Muthusamy, a 5th grader at Rivers Edge Elementary, spelled "exsiccosis" correctly to solidify his spot in the finals.

Muthusamy won the regional Spelling Bee in March by correctly spelling "brigand." He spelled "waterzooi," "Brigadoon," and "commorients" correctly in the national spelling bee and scored highly enough on two tests to qualify to be one of the final 12 spellers.

The finals will be held at 8 p.m. and broadcast on ESPN.
