HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Henrico Police arrested a woman after she allegedly stole several items from a supermarket, then tried to get away by carjacking a nearby truck. The driver, however, turned out to be an off-duty Henrico Police officer.

The suspect, Sandra Sandiford, 49, is charged with grand larceny and carjacking.

Police say shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, Sandiford stole several items from the Martin's Supermarket in the 10200 block of Staples Mill Road. When employees tried to stop her, she left the store with the goods, then approached a truck stopped at a traffic light at Warren Road and Staples Mill Road.

Police say she threw the items into an open window of the truck, then climbed in. The suspect threatened the off-duty police officer when he turned off his truck - she allegedly grabbed the keys and tried to turn the truck back on. The officer and a witness were able to stop her until police arrived to make the arrest.
