Severe storms knock out power, down trees, flood streets

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A severe storm system spawned tornado warnings across Central Virginia, as high winds, heavy rain and hail caused damage across the area.

Tornado warnings enveloped much of the area beginning around 5 p.m. and continuing for at least two hours.

The storm caused massive flooding along parts of Interstate 95 in the City of Richmond near Belvidere, as well as parts of the Fan and Shockoe Bottom. The storm also caused a partial roof collapse at the Exxon station on Broad and 18th streets.

Trees were reported down in parts of South Richmond as more than 20,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers lost power in the storm.

Large hail fell heavily across parts of Henrico, as the storm made its way across the region.
