Northside neighbors concerned over possible huge Seminary development

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Neighbors in the Northside are sounding off on a possible major development in their historic neighborhood.

The Union Presbyterian Seminary is drawing plans to build about 350 apartments and 85 single family homes, in an effort to expand and support itself financially. The development would go on the Seminary's land by Brook Road and Westwood Avenue, which currently has walking trails, tennis courts, and sporting fields allowed for the community to use.

Neighbors say, the current proposal is too drastic for the area.

"The alarm we have is just the high density. We've already got traffic problems," said neighbor John Moeser.

A representative from the Seminary says the plans aren't final yet. They say the seminary is working with a task force from the community for two years on a compromise.

Richmond city officials would have to approve any final plans.
