Powhatan man severely burned during brush fire

POWHATAN, VA (WWBT) -

A man in Powhatan is severely burned after fire fully engulfed his clothing during a brush fire.

Firefighters say the man tried to burn brush outside of his home around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Oakland Estates Drive.

In an attempt to burn the brush, the 67-year-old tossed motor oil on it and set it on fire. His clothes caught fire in the process.

His wife managed to get him out of the burning clothes. He was soon flown to an area hospital.

The victim was burned on over 50 percent of his body.
