Police investigating after bullets hit Henrico home

Scary moments in a Henrico neighborhood when shots were fired into a woman's home. Police say it happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 6500 block of Barksdale Drive in Varina.

While Henrico police investigate what led to the gunfire, people who live in the neighborhood are both baffled and on edge.

Neighbor Sandra Cooley was in her living room Tuesday night when she says she heard a strange noise.

"My son and I were sitting at the computer at the front window and we heard a shot," she said. "Which was kind of unusual for that time of night."

According to Henrico police, a shot was fired into a home on Barksdale Drive. Police say the bullet was found in the bathroom and there was a hole in the window frame.

The homeowner says she fears what the motive might be.

"Somebody could have gotten killed," said neighbor Annette Price. She also owns the land behind the home that was shot. "We were having coffee and cake, and next thing I know, the whole neighborhood was full of police!"

These were unusual sights and sounds for their community, Price said.

"This is a quiet neighborhood and we don't have a lot of things going on like that," said Price.

She, too, is worried about motive. Why would someone shoot at a middle-aged woman's home?

Police are also trying to figure out if it was an accidental discharge or someone who fired the gun on purpose. If you have any clues that can help police, call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
