Chesterfield, Richmond police in chase after car break-in at Chesterfield Towne Center

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond and Chesterfield police finally apprehended a suspect wanted for breaking into a car in the parking lot at Chesterfield Town Center.

Authorities said after the suspect's vehicle description was called in, a car matching the description was spotted at the intersection of Providence Road and Route 60 (Midlothian Turnpike.) Chesterfield police attempted to pull over the driver, but the chase continued across the river into the City of Richmond, where Richmond police joined the pursuit.

Sources said at one point, the suspect was driving the wrong way down Fifth Street downtown, and eventually crashed on that street, right in front of the Richmond Coliseum, where a concert is going on tonight. Two people in the car were taken into custody, police said. One man was taken away in handcuffs by Chesterfield Police, and a second man was placed into an ambulance after complaining of an ankle injury.

Police said charges of larceny and reckless driving are pending.

Chris Thomas will have more on the story tonight on NBC12 News at 11.
