Makeover closes south entrance to University of Richmond

The south entrance of the University of Richmond is getting a makeover. Beginning May 13, the entrance off River Road will close for the entire summer.

One of the big changes to come is that UR Drive will be re-routed to offer a more scenic entrance to the university, incorporating a view of the university's iconic Boatwright Tower.

The south area of campus will undergo the most change during the closure, with five sections of town homes slated to be torn down.

Though the regular school year is coming to a close, the summer months are still extremely busy, with several sports camps and conferences happening on campus over the next three months. That's why it's important to be aware of the closure and alternate entrances.

Campus is still accessible at the Westhampton gate entrance on College Road, or the north entrance at the intersection of Campus Drive and Gateway Road. The closure will remain in effect at least until students return from summer break in late August.

When the south entrance reopens, it will be the new official main entrance to the campus.
